Version mismatch causes problems

I restored a cold backup of an Oracle 8.1.5 database on a machine with Oracle 8.1.7 installed. Now I'm receiving the ORA-06553 error message.

I have a cold backup of a database (Oracle 8.1.5). I've installed Oracle 8.1.7 on a machine (Windows XP Pro), and restored the backup of Oracle 8.1.5 on this machine. I connected with one of the users (not sys or internal) with its password from an old backup. I received the following error:

ORA-06553:PLS-707 : unsupported construct or internal error[2603] error accessing package dbms_application_info error ORA-06553 PLS-707 unsupported construct or internal[2603]. I have also tried to run the scripts catalog.sql and catproc.sql as well as standard.sql. Unfortunately it didn't work. What should I do next?

Your database is an Oracle 8.1.5 database, but you are running with the Oracle 8.1.7 software. I would expect this combination to give you problems since they have a version mismatch. To fix this, I would restore from the 8.1.5 backup, and then proceed with a manual upgrade as follows:

1. STARTUP RESTRICT
2. @?/rdbms/admin/u08010500.sql (This is the upgrade script)
3. SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE
4. Take a backup of your database.
5. STARTUP

This should upgrade your database to 8.1.7 and fix your problem.
