Using a database link to connect two Oracle apps instances

Oracle expert Brian Peasland explains how to use a database link to connect two Oracle apps instances.

I have two Oracle Apps instances (Oracle database 9i) in a single Linux server. How would I connect both databases from SQL Plus while the username and password are the same?
As you have probably figured out, SQL*Plus can only connect to one instance at a time. If you want to query the other instance, you will create a database link from the first instance to the second instance. This download from Oracle shows how to set up database links and use them.
