I'm installing Oracle8i on Windows 2000 on NTFS partition and on the same machine I'm installing Developer 2000 or Forms 6 in a different partition. When I try to connect Developer to Oracle, I get the error "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name." Please provide a solution. Can I use Oracle8i Enterprise and Developer 2000 on the same machine?
There must be a listener running so that connections can be made to the database. You can configure a listener by using the Net Configuration Assistant (available from the Start menu on your Windows server). Alternatively, you can search for an example listener.ora file (usually located in $ORACLE_HOME\network\admin) and make the proper modifications to it in a text editor. The listener can be started manually from the command prompt as follows (assuming that you are using a default listener and not a named listener):
The listener can also be started from the Services panel. If you use the assistant, it will create a listener.ora for you and also start the listener. You can also test connectivity to your database via this interface.
