Using DEINSTALL_LIST={"component1","1.0.1.2"} to deinstall a component

We are planning to upgrade our Oracle Client from 8.1.7.0.0 to 9.2.0.1.0. Oracle's "Using the Oracle Installer" documentation indicates that you can use -deinstall DEINSTALL_LIST={"component1","1.0.1.2"} to deinstall a component. I've tried to use DEINSTALL_LIST={"oracle.client","8.1.7.0.0"} and any number of combinations of versions, components... to no avail. Can you tell me how this is supposed to function? Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

What platform is the Client? Windows, Unix? It makes some differences. Have you tried using a response file to put your parameters in?

There is a Oracle Universal Installer Concepts Guide Release 2.2 document that should have the info you need but I can't seem to locate a direct Web link for it. Check the install CD to see if you can find it there and give it a look through.

Sorry I can't be of more help!
