Unable to log in through internal

I installed Oracle8i on Windows 2000 server. After installation, I tried to log in with the username SCOTT and password TIGER. I get the error message "ORA-01034: Oracle not found" and "ORA-27101." However, I am able to login through internal using svrmgr. What should I do?
The ORA-01034 and ORA-27101 error messages indicate that your database is not up and running. Logging on as INTERNAL through SVRMGR does not verify that the database is up and running as you log in this way to start the database (when it is down). Try connecting to SCOTT through SVRMGR and see if you get the same messages. My bet is that you would. You'll have to start the database. This means that you will want to navigate to Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services. Scroll down the list of services until you see a service titled OracleSIDService (where SID is your database SID). Start the service. This will start the database for you.
