Temporary objects growing and taking up too much space

In some of my databases, in the temporary tablespace, there is an object of type "TEMPORARY". The owner of an object is SYS. It grows and takes up too much space. Any idea what this is about?
In current versions of Oracle, temporary segments (the objects you see with type 'TEMPORARY' are maintained between uses, to reduce the overhead involved in creating and dropping them. Unless you find that SQL statements are failing because of inability to allocate temporary space, you don't need to worry about these.
