Target and catalog databases on different servers

I have the catalog database on Windows and the target database on Linux and I keep getting insufficient privileges errors when I try to connect to the target database. Can you go through the steps that are specific for setting up RMAN and connecting through it when you have the target and catalog databases on different servers?

I have the catalog database on Windows and the target database on Linux and I keep getting insufficient privileges errors when I try to connect to the target database. Can you go through the steps that are specific for setting up RMAN and connecting through it when you have the target and catalog databases on different servers (Windows and Linux)? Which TNS entries should be modified? Does the password file have anything to do with it?
Connecting to the target database requires the ability to connect with the SYSDBA privilege. To set this up, you will need to perform the following tasks on your target database:
  1. Create a password file with the orapwd utility.
  2. Modify the REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE initialization parameter to SHARED.
  3. Bounce the instance to let the parameter change take effect.
  4. Sign on to the database as SYS and grant SYSDBA to the user that will be connecting through RMAN.
