Sudden appearance of ORA-12560

I used to be working fine with my database, but one day suddenly it sent me the message that there was a shutdown in progress. I corrected the problem, but now I get the message ORA-12560. What can I do? I've checked and the service for the database and the listener are up and running.

More information on how you corrected the shutdown in progress would have been helpful as this may have helped narrow down the problem.

However, with respect to the ORA-12560 error, here are some potential causes:

  • Verify that the instance has started and that the database is open. Even if the service has been started, this is not a guarantee that the database is open.
  • Ensure that the ORACLE_SID is properly set in the registry.

Remember to also review the oradim and alert logs for any errors or messages.
