Requirement: I have multiple segments of messages from a single feed. Each segment is 2 KB. Storage options are:
a) Store them as 2 KB/4 KB with multiple VARCHAR2 fields in a row.
b> Store them as CLOB.
It is in a very I/O intensive OLTP system. What's the right direction to choose? Bottom line, the performance can not be compromised.
Is each 2KB segment just a piece of one whole piece of data? If so, then I'd highly consider putting the pieces back together and storing that whole piece in a CLOB. For instance, I wouldn't store every sentence of a document in their own row in a table. I'd rather store the whole document in one row in the table. To me, how the data needs to be presented is the driving factor here.
