See tables in another schema in Oracle 8

Is there a way to see the tables of another schema without specifying schema name prior to table name and without using synonyms in Oracle 8?

Is there any other way to see the tables of another schema without specifying schema name prior to table name and without using synonyms in Oracle 8?
Synonyms were designed exactly for this purpose. I'm not sure why you would not want to use them. The only other way I can think of is to create a view which does a simple SELECT on the other table. In that way, you can refer to another table in another schema without the schema-dot notation or a synonym.
