According to your material, you said the SCN details will be stored in controlfiles or the recovery catalog. I would like to know, while taking an RMAN backup, if the DB crashes then will the entry in the controlfile be removed? If yes, when will it be removed? Thanks.
The SCN entries are constantly being updated in the control files. If your database crashes during your RMAN backup, then there will be a recent SCN in the control files. When using RMAN for recovery (if necessary), RMAN will not use the backup that was taking place during the crash as that backup is incomplete. RMAN will find the SCN of the completed backup pieces needed to restore your database, using the SCN in the control file for comparison.
