I have an Oracle 9i database. I am getting the "ERROR at line 1: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel"...
error message whenever the client is idle for five minutes. What really is the cause and the solution for this error? We have implemented replication between two sites. We have a firewall installed in our system and have tried to fix from the firewall side and the problem is still there. ORA-03113 means that the client's process counterpart (the database server process) has terminated. Take a look in your Oracle server core dump directory (identified by the initialization parameter CORE_DUMP_DEST) to see if there any core dump log files. Also, get the process ID of the session's server process (available in V$PROCESS), and confirm that the process is no longer running when you get the ORA-03113. Your goal then is to find out why the processes terminates after five minutes of idle time. You'll probably need to involve your system administrator.
