The backup book by Velpuri & Adkoli is somewhat dated, but still a very good reference. I wish they would update it for 10g. However, I still recommend this book. I see that Robert Freeman has a 10g backup book coming out, and his books are normally pretty good.
The Tuning 101 book by Gaja is somewhat dated. Much has changed between Oracle 8i and 9i. And a ton of features have changed between 9i and 10g. So I probably cannot recommend this tuning book for the 10g version. I do see that there are a few 10g tuning books on the market, but I am hesitant to recommend any if only because I have not had a chance to read them.
