Recovering lost datafile

How can you recover a datafile which is lost and is not in your backup?

I am new to this field and I have one doubt. How can you recover a datafile which is lost and is not in your backup?
If you do not have a backup, then you cannot recover the datafile. You can re-create it, but the datafile will be empty. To re-create the datafile, use the ALTER DATABASE CREATE DATAFILE as seen in this document.

Backups are a very important job for the database administrator. I would say that backups are job #1!!! And backups are of no use if one does not know how to recover the database with the backup. A sound backup and recovery strategy needs to be implemented and practiced.
