Problems connecting 10g client to Oracle 8.1.7 database

Do you know of any problems when trying to connect from 10g to an Oracle 8.1.7 database or a database that resides on a mainframe?

I have Oracle 10g Client and I cannot connect to a database that is on an S390 mainframe machine using the tnsnames that the DBA and other people are using to get a connection. I believe that the database I am trying to connect to is Oracle 8.1.7. The people who can connect to the database have Oracle 8 Client installed on their machine. Do you know of any problems when trying to connect from 10g to an Oracle 8.1.7 database or a database that resides on a mainframe? Thank you.
There are problems with Oracle 10g clients connecting to Oracle 8i and earlier. Most of those problems are network related issues. It is best to use Oracle 8i client software to connect to the 8i database.
