Problem with quick generation of archive log files

I am using Oracle 9i release 2 with patch 5 as my production database in archive log mode. Yesterday users complained that performance are going down. I checked the database and found that archive log files are generating very quickly, nearly two archive log files per minute at a size of 100 MB each.

I have a problem in my database. I am using Oracle 9i release 2 with patch 5 as my production database in archive log mode. Yesterday users complained that performance are going down. After that I checked the database; there I found that archive log files are generating very quickly, nearly two archive log files per minute at a size of 100 MB each. Normally it takes an hour for one archive file to generate. After that I restarted the database, and then it ran very smoothly. Then I swtiched to the LogMiner to see the activities of the archive log file, but while generating the output of that archive file from v$logmnr_contents through SYS user, it came out from the session and gave me an error, ORA-03113, saying "end-of-communication channel." Please slove my problem.
The rate of generation of archived logs is equal to the rate of generation of redo. If you are seeing a sudden spike in archived log creation, it is due to a high level of DML against your database. The fact that your database ran smoothly after a shutdown is probably due to the fact that you killed a lot of sessions! Next time, monitor the connected sessions for the SQL that they are executing (by querying v$sql). Using LogMiner is also a good idea to see what happened in the past; I'd suggest that you open an SR with Oracle Support to resolve the ORA-03113 error.
