Possible to make Oracle table field case insensitive?

Is it possible to make an Oracle table field case insensitive? Other than using triggers, is there a way to store a field's value in upper or lower case? The database version is in Oracle9i.
Oracle9i does not contain a native way to make data case insensitive. Your only recourse at this point is to use a trigger to modify the incoming data. Or you could store the data in mixed case and then create a Function Based Index to help you search for the data in all upper, or lower case.
