I am declaring two variables as V_LP: = 0; V_COUNTER: = 1; and incrementing its value inside the function. I am getting the error "PLS-00103." How to resolve it?

I am declaring two variables as V_LP: = 0; V_COUNTER: = 1; and incrementing its value inside the function. I am getting the error "PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol ":" when expecting one of the following: constant exception <an identifier> table LONG_ double ref char time timestamp interval date binary national character nchar." How to resolve it?
The assignment operator is ':=' with no spaces in it. If you put a space, then Oracle does not treat this as an assignment, hence your error. Try the following instead:
V_LP := 0; V_COUNTER := 1;
