"Not connected to Oracle" error with Delphi 5 application

I have a Delphi 5 application. My database is on Oracle 9. My software works OK, but sometimes I receive the error "Not connected to Oracle." I've just verified that it is not a network problem. Basically, my software is constantly (every 500 milliseconds) reading a record and updating that record.

If you feel that your network is not causing problems, then make sure your application is not closing the connection prematurely. This may mean working with your application vendor. The next place I would look is in my USER_DUMP_DEST directory. See if you have any trace files for the disconnected sessions. The trace file might give you further clues. If that still does not resolve the problem, you will have to work with Oracle Support to resolve the issue. They will most likely have you perform some network traces, but they will give you instructions on how to do that.
