Necessary privileges for importing a .dmp file

How do I get the privileges to import an Oracle backup .dmp file?

My client has sent me an Oracle backup .dmp file. When I try to import it, the following message is displayed:

'Only a DBA can import file exported by another DBA'

Could you please help me resolve it? It's urgent for me.

When you run the import utility, you have to provide a userid. Since the user who created the dump file had DBA privileges, you must have DBA privileges to import any part of the dump file. There is no way around this. The SYSTEM account has DBA privileges, so use that userid if you know the password. If you do not have DBA privileges in your database, then ask your DBA to perform the import for you.
