Minimizing time to export a 9i database

I have a little under 4 Gig database which I'm exporting, but it takes 13 hours to do. Is there a way to minimize this time? I'm running Oracle 9i (9.2.0.6.0) on a Sunfire 3800 box with Solaris 5.8.

You can try performing a direct export by specifying the DIRECT=Y parameter. This can make your export perform faster. Also, do not use the CONSISTENT=Y parameter as this can slow things down quite a bit.

Each of these options has its pros and cons, so I highly recommend reading the Oracle docs on these parameters to the exp utility.

If these two tips do not speed up your export time, then you have to determine where your bottleneck lies. I have a white paper on my web site in which I discuss how I tuned an export with wait events.
