Migrating to Oracle 9.2 on AIX

I have to do a migration from Oracle 7.3.4 to Oracle 9.2 and Oracle 8.1.6 to Oracle 9.2 on an AIX4.3 server to AIX5.3 on a different machine. Please give me a detailed step-by-step procedure to achieve both the processes.

There is no direct path of migration from release 7.3.4, or release 8.1.6, to Oracle9i Release 2. Your options for migration are somewhat limited to using Oracle's export/import utilities to perform the migration. Oracle 9.2 is not supported on AIX4.3 so you cannot install this on the current server, upgrade the databases and then move them to the new server. What you should consider is installing Oracle9i Release 2 on the new AIX server and patching it to the latest release (currently 9.2.0.7). Create two empty databases with the same SID on the new server, export both databases from the current server and import them into newly created databases on the new server. This essentially performs both the Oracle database upgrade and migration to a new server in one step.
