I did an export from an Oracle 8.0.6 / AIX 4.3.3 platform and would like to import on a new AIX 5.2 server (still Oracle version 8.0.6). Is Oracle 8.0.6 compatible with AIX OS 5.2?
According to
Oracle's certification matrix, Oracle 8.0.6 is not certified or supported on AIX5.2. You are restricted to installing Oracle9i Release 2 64-bit (9.2) and above on this operating system. You could create a new 9.2 database on the AIX 5.2 server and then import the Oracle 8.0.6 database into it. There is backward compatibility for this reason. The database itself, however, would be an Oracle 9.2 database. You would have to test this extensively to ensure that you did not encounter any performance issues as a result of this migration since there were significant optimizer changes between Oracle 8.0.6 and 9.2.
