Installing Oracle 9i r2 on home PC

I am trying to install Oracle 9i r2 on my home PC, but I am getting the error, "Cannot apply patch set to pre Oracle 9i r2 database." After this message, the installation aborts.

I have oracle 8i installed. I completly removed Oracle 8i but still this error persists. MY PC conguration is:

  • OS: WIN 2k Professional
  • Pentium III 666 MHz

I successfully installed OUI but when installing the database, this error pops up while the "executing pre requisites" step is executed by OUI.

Also, do i need java installed, and if yes, which version? Do I need to install 9i on Server OS?

Please help me out, sir.
Make sure that on the "File Locations" screen in your installer, you're selecting a new destination location for the 9i ORACLE_HOME. That should help. You don't need to install Java; Oracle will install all the components it needs.
