Installing Developer Suite and database in different directories

Should I install Oracle Developer Suite 9i in the same directory as the Oracle database? I've tried to install them in different directories, but when I ran Oracle Form Builder, it wouldn't connect to the database I've specified.

You should, and you must install Developer in a different ORACLE_HOME directory than your Oracle RDBMS software.

To connect Forms to your database, you will have to configure a TNS alias to point your Forms software to your database listener. Look in the Developer software for the Net Configuration Assistant. Create a new alias and specify your database server's name, the database SID and the port of your database listener (typically 1521). Once this is done, you can specify your username, password and this TNS alias (also called a Service Name) to connect to your database.
