Importing 8i backup file into 8.0

Learn how to import a backup file from a newer version of Oracle to an older version.

How do I import Oracle8i Personal Edition export backup file into Oracle8.0 Personal Edition?
You'll have to export from Oracle 8i using the Oracle 8.0 export utility. If you use the Oracle 8i export utility, then the Oracle 8.0 import utility will have problems. The rule to follow when exporting from a higher version to a lower version is to use the lower version's export and import utilities.

To use the lower version's export utility, make sure your environment is set to that version. Then envoke export as follows:

exp userid=system@ora8i file=.......

In the USERID parameter, the '@ora8i' portion says to connect to a database defined by the ORA8I TNS alias.
