How to use RMAN CONVERT to migrate from Solaris to Oracle 11g RHEL

Learn how to migrate Oracle from Solaris to Oracle 11g RHEL with the RMAN CONVERT command in this tip from an Oracle expert.

I want to migrate a 13TB Oracle 9i database from Solaris 8 to Oracle 11g RHEL 5.3. I guess in this migration I will need a combination of XTTS and RMAN CONVERT. Does it have to go through Oracle 10g -- or can it go directly from 9i to 11g?
You can use TTS. The big problem is that the Solaris file format is "big endian" and Linux is "little endian." So you'll need to use RMAN's CONVERT command to convert the endianness before you can plug in the datafiles to the destination DM.
