How to import an Oracle 7.3 database to Oracle 9.2

How do I import an Oracle 7.3 database to an Oracle 9.2 database?

This operation is actually quite easy.

  1. Use the Oracle 7.3 utility to create an export of the full database:
       exp userid=system/manager file=full_export.dmp full=y
    log=full_export.log
  2. Copy the dump file onto the database server. If you are using the FTP utility to move the dump file, then make sure you transfer it in binary mode.
  3. It is assumed that the destination database is precreated. You will also want to precreate any tablespaces that you'll need.
  4. Import the contents of the dump file:
    imp userid=system file=full_export.dmp full=y log=imp.log

If there are errors, then you will see them in the log file that is created.

The Oracle docs give much more information on the export and import utilities. You can find a copy of this documentation at the following URL:
