Oracle installer gives a user.avf file not found error while gathering system roots. After downloading the new Oracle installer, it shoots out a "stopsrvc.vrf(78) argument0 (string expected when list found)" error. I am using Oracle8 Personal Edition 8.0.4 release.
You will want to use the Oracle installation program that comes with the software you are trying to install. You did mention that you are installing Oracle 8.0.4, but you failed to mention which platform you are installing it on. If you are installing to MS Windows XP, then you will need to install Oracle 9i or Oracle 10g. And you must be using XP Pro, not XP Home. If you are using Windows 2000, then the only certified versions are Oracle 8i and 9i on this platform.
