Getting ORA-12535 since upgrade

Since converting to 9i (9.2) this error message is happening frequently:

ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out

I have an ETL process which kicks off several "jobs" simultaneously. The previous version of Oracle, 8.1.7, this problem never occurred. Ideas?

The Error Messages Guide says this:

Cause: The requested connection could not be completed within the timeout period specified by the CONNECT_TIMEOUT parameter in LISTENER.ORA. This error arises from the TNSLSNR.

Action: Either reconfigure CONNECT_TIMEOUT to be 0, which means wait indefinitely, or reconfigure CONNECT_TIMEOUT to be some higher value. Or, if the timeout is unacceptably long, turn on tracing for further information.

Since you're kicking off several things simultaneously, the "jobs" may be serializing and missing your CONNECT_TIMEOUT threshold. Try checking that value and see if that fixes it.
