Fetching data from temporary tables to display reports getting slow

I had developed a customized package for an Asian power house, and I am facing one problem. While generating reports I used to transfer the data to temporary tables, and from there I would fetch the data and display the report. Initially it was working fine, but I found that it was getting slower. I had tried one thing: I had dropped all related temporary tables and then recreated them. Then it started working fine. Can you tell me what could be the reason?

It's hard to tell without more detail. Your best bet will be to trace the operations that run slowly (ideally using DBMS_SUPPORT.START_TRACE), and analyze the resulting data after running the trace file through TKPROF.
