I want to export a 10g database and import to 8i. I know the solution which consists of using the 8i export utility on 10g. Is there any other way that I won't need to install 8i client for 10g?
You are correct -- you must always use a version of the import utility that is equal to the version of the target database. I am not aware of any other way to do this if you are exporting from a higher release than you will be importing into. In this case, you wish to export from an Oracle 10g database and import into an Oracle 8.1.7 database (Oracle does not support importing into anything older than 8.1.7 from 10g) so you must use an 8.1.7 export utility for the import to be successful.

Can I use /var/opt/oracle/oratab to specify listener information?
We would like to migrate our database from Oracle 8.1.7 to Oracle 10g. We would like to know the impact for our application developed using Delphi ...
I have been trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on SUSE Linux 9.0 and got the error:
"Error in invoking target install of makefile /opt/oracle/...../*.mk."
