Estimating the size of an index

How do you estimate the size of an index?
The best way I've found to estimate the size of an index is to load a representative sample of data into a table. For instance, populate the table with 10% of the expected data. Then create an index on that table. Use the DBMS_SPACE package to determine how much space is actually used in that index. Now extrapolate for all of your data. In our example, that would be to multiply by 10.
