Error message when logging in to Oracle

I am using Oracle as a database for a tool. When I try to log in with the tool to Oracle, I get the following message: Previous installation of the application has been detected on this Oracle instance. Remove the table SYSTEM.ASSETTABLESPACES from this instance.

I'm using Oracle 8.1.7 on a Window 2000 computer. Can you advise me?

The error message is coming from your application, not Oracle. You did not specify the application, and I am not familiar with this message. But if I had to fix this problem, I'd do as the message says, and remove the table. Sign on to SQL*Plus as SYSTEM and issue the following commands:

CREATE TABLE SYSTEM.ASSETTABLESPACES_BKUP AS SELECT * FROM SYSTEM.ASSETTABLESPACES; DROP TABLE SYSTEM.ASSETTABLESPACES;

The first command creates a backup of the table, just in case. The second command drops the table, just as the error message indicates. After you have dropped the table, try your application again.
