Error in ODBC connections

Using Oracle 9i, Windows 2000 SP4. I'm installing an Oracle client and getting an error in ODBC connections when trying to test the connection.

Using Oracle 9i, Windows 2000 SP4. New install. I'm installing an Oracle client and getting an error in ODBC connections when trying to test the connection:

Unable to Connect.
SQLstate=S1000
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]
ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out.

Thanks for your help.

This error basically indicates that there is a slow connection between the client and your Oracle database. My first question would be whether you can connect to your database from this client any other way, e.g., SQL*Plus. If not, you might want to increase the CONNECT_TIMEOUT parameter in the listener.ora to be a higher value or zero (which means wait indefinitely). If that doesn't help, you will want to turn on tracing to see if this gives you more information about the problem.
