I have the following scenario:
1) I have one system running one Oracle instance called OSS. This system is backed up using RMAN.
2) I have a similar database in another system also called OSS with the same file system structure but the data is different.
3) I want to restore the database from system 1 to system 2 using RMAN to a state of two months ago.
How can I do this?
Hopefully, your backup of the database from two months ago is still around. If not, then your task is not possible. RMAN makes it quite easy to duplicate a database from a backup. You are not required that your directory structure on the new server is identical to the source server, but it does make life a little easier. To get an idea of what is possible, please read the following link to the Oracle docs:
After that, please read the entire chapter devoted to the particulars of duplicating a database with RMAN:
The documentation on Technet requires an account to access it, but setting up an account is free.
