Does RMAN shut down the database during level 0 backups?

After going through scripts, I see that the level 0 does not shut down and restart the database during the backup. Does RMAN handle that or do these commands need to be added?

I have inherited an Oracle 9.2 environment using RMAN -- they run a level 0 on the weekend and level 1 each weeknight. After going through scripts, I see that the level 0 does not shut down and restart the database during the backup. Does RMAN handle that or do these commands need to be added? Thanks.

RMAN can automatically handle these hot backups. You do not need to do anything special on your end.

As with any backup and recovery strategy, you should test out both the backup AND the recovery from the backups to ensure that things work as you expect them to. So don't just take my word for it. Test your recovery too!
