Is Oracle architecture different for different versions (8i/9i)? If yes what are the basic differences?
For the most part, the architecture does not change much from 8i to 9i and from 9i to 10g. What was available in one version is still there in the next version (with a small number of exceptions). However, each new version brings new features and those features may need a new process or some other change to the Oracle architecture. Since each new version brings many new features, it is worthwhile to read the Oracle documentation on how each version has changed. Go to http://tahiti.oracle.com, click on the link for your version, then click on the Books link and finally, find the New Features guide which lists all of the new features for that version as well as how the architecture changes to support that version.
