I'm trying to re-install Oracle 9i on a server that had been running an application before. When creating/starting the database configuration assistant stops the installation and appears a window with this message: "DIM-00020: A service for this SID is already created. Please enter a different SID name. No action has been taken." But I need the name of the service for the database to be the same as the other that was installed before, because of the requirements of the application. How can I do it?
To fix this problem, you'll need to delete the service that was created when you initially created the database. You can use the ORADIM utility to delete this service. Fire up a command line window and issue the following:
oradim -delete -sid orcl
Use your database's SID in place of 'orcl' above. Then try to recreate your database.
