I created a database link, and it worked for two or three days. My next attempt to use it resulted in an ORA-12640 error -- "Authentication Adapter Initialization Failed." I checked the error and found it didn't say specifically what the problem really was. I even reinstalled Oracle 8i and re-created the link and, again, it worked for a few days with the same error reoccuring. Can you please shed light on this error and how it can be resolved?
One thing to try is to locate your SQLNET.ORA config file and comment out the following line:
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=(NTS)See if that helps. You may have to restart your database if you change this on the database server.
I did see some bugs relating to this same error. Those bugs have been fixed in Oracle 9i and 10g, so you may have to upgrade to a newer version.
