Copying data to new Oracle database with same SID

I have taken the .dbf, .ctl and .log file from my Oracle database and pasted those files to another Oracle database with the same SID. But it's not working. Am I missing something?

First, be sure that the database is down when you copy these files. If the source database is up and running, the copies will not be consistent and the destination database will not be able to open. Otherwise, when you try to start the database, and it will not open, check the Alert Log for errors. Those errors will indicate why you are unsuccessful.
