Copying a word in a purchase order to three other lines

I have a situation where a user wants to enter one word on one line of the purchase order, and I need to copy (insert)...

that same word on three more lines of the same purchase order. What is the best way to do it? I was thinking about using a trigger, but it gives me a "mutating" error. Any other suggestions? I am using Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows NT 4.
