Can't start 8i database on Windows XP

I have installed Oracle 8i on a Windows XP platform. My computer is a stand-alone computer. It was installed successfully but after installation it cannot start the database. My question is how to start the database and/or what is the remedy so that the OS itself can start the database?

The problem is that Oracle 8i is not certified on the Windows XP platform. This is most likely why you cannot start the Oracle instance. Oracle 8i is certified on Windows NT and 2000. Or, you'll have to use either Oracle 9i or 10g for XP. You also must be running XP Professional. Oracle 9i and 10g are not certified on XP Home.
