I would not recommend creating a production Oracle database on a Windows XP Home computer, but if you are only installing Oracle software strictly for educational purposes then I see no harm in it.

I have been trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on SUSE Linux 9.0 and got the error:
"Error in invoking target install of makefile /opt/oracle/...../*.mk."
