Allowing NULL values

An Oracle user asks about the pros and cons of allowing NULLs in a column.

What are the pros and cons of allowing NULLs in a column?
I never look at allowing NULL values from a pro vs. con argument. Basically, I look at my data model and the requirements of the attribute I am attempting to model. Does your data model require every record to have a value for the attribute? If so, then the column should have a NOT NULL constraint. If not, then the column should be allowed to have NULL values. Nowhere in there am I concerned with performance or storage of NULL values or any other pro/con considerations. If I have a requirement for a NOT NULL constraint, then I implement it and don't worry about anything else. If I do not have this requirement, then I allow NULL values.
