Accessing an Oracle 8i database via a client on Windows XP

Can I access an Oracle 8i database on Windows Server 2000 by using a client on Windows XP? If yes, then which client should I use on XP to access Oracle 8i?

The only supported version of Windows XP is XP Professional. Windows XP Home is not supported by Oracle Corp. and the most common problems are connectivity to databases.

If you are using XP Pro, then you can connect to your Oracle 8i database if you have installed Oracle Client software on your workstation. I would only recommend the 8i or 9i versions of Oracle Client for connecting to an Oracle 8i database. There have been a few issues with 10g Client connecting to 8i databases, so stay away from that version until you upgrade your database.
