Optimize SQL query on table with 50 million records

EXPERT ANSWER - We have a table with about 50 million records. We are executing a query that takes one or two seconds to complete in Oracle 10g, but we need it to take less than half a second.

Import of dump file took 20 hours

EXPERT ANSWER - I tried to import a database dump onto my Oracle server using the imp command. The size of the file is 7GB and it took around 20 hours to complete.
