Oracle provides a utility, called RapidWiz, to automate the 11i Apps installation
process. RapidWiz prompts the user for specific locations of prerequisite
software, as well as the locations to install the underlying components
used by the E-business suite. All three tiers are installed using this process.
However, there are several pre-installation steps needed before evoking the
utility. RapidWiz also provides a list for post-installation checks to verify a
successful installation.

Review the latest "Installing Oracle Applications" and "Oracle Readme for
Windows" documents
Before installing any Oracle product, you will need to review the installation
documentation and the latest Readme file. Unfortunately, relying
solely on these two resources could be a costly mistake. Our experience
showed that the Readme file for Win 2K/NT did provide us with some
necessary information that is not found in the install documents.
However, several references are made to Oracle's Metalink support Web
site. If you do not have a Metalink account, you can apply for one using
your Customer Service Identifier (CSI) number. For specific maintenance
release readme notes, refer to Metalink note: 215868.1.
2. Ensure you have enough disk space for the installation
The 11i application files use about 30 GB of space per instance. If you
install the VISON demo database, you will need an additional 35.5 GB of
space. If you install the pre-configured database, you will need an additional
21 GB of space. You will also need to allow room for patches,
backups and any other necessary software packages particular to your
environment.
3. Install prerequisite software for Windows 2K/NT 11i Apps environment
Several prerequisite software packages are needed to emulate the Unix
environment before evoking the RapidWiz utility. The tools installed with
this product are used in combination with the supplied scripts for proper
system administration maintenance. When installing these tools, make
sure that you do not install them under the APPL_TOP directory. Also,
use a path name that does not have any spaces. If you install these tools
using a path name with spaces (e.g. C:Program Files), the AD tools will
not run properly. Below are the prerequisite software packages needed
before installing the 11i Apps on Windows 2K/NT.
- Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Standard Edition
The tools installed with this product are used for proper linking and relinking
of the environment when using the AD tools. At the time of this
document, Oracle does not support Visual C++ .NET. Per Metalink note
201392.1, you can purchase the .NET version of MS C++ and then
request a downgrade to the C++ version 6.0 via Microsoft support.
- Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.3 or higher
Oracle Applications 11.5.8 requires Sun's Java Development Kit (JDK)
version, also referred to as the Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition or higher.
You must install JDK 1.3 or higher on the HTTP server node before
starting RapidWiz. You can download JDK 1.3 for Windows from the Sun
download site.
- MKS Toolkit for Developers 6.1 or higher
The MKS Toolkit emulates a UNIX environment on the OS so that the
AD scripts will run properly. Previously you could download a 30-day
trial of the software however you now have to request an evaluation kit
from www.mks.com. You can use either version of the developer series
Professional or Enterprise. For future reference and updates, refer
to Metalink note: 148286.1. Some use the shareware tool Cygwin.
However, Oracle Support maintains this it is not a supported alternative.
- GNUMAKE versions 3.77 or Higher, excluding 3.79.0
GNUMAKE is a shareware product needed for linking and relinking of
the 11i environment when using the AD tools. You can download the
latest copy of GNUMAKE at http://www.gnu.org. Once downloaded and
unzipped, review the README file for directions on how to configure
GNUMAKE for your environment. For future reference and updates
refer to Metalink note: 117545.1.
After all prerequisite software has been installed; update your O/S "path" environment variable to include the executables for reference. You will need
to bounce your server so that all tools can be used properly. Listed below are

Other utilities we found to be useful in our environment include WinZip 8.1,
Acrobat Reader 5.1, MDAC 2.6, and Iarsn TaskInfo 2003.
