This download is Chapter 5 of "Oracle Database 10g SQL," by Jason Price and Lisa McClain. This volume will take you from novice to master, covering not only how to use SQL but also the Oracle extensions to SQL. The examples feature the sample schemas available with Oracle Database 10g, and free code will be available for download.

Chapter 5, "Using SQL*Plus," focuses on what you need to know about Oracle's interactive query tool. It covers how to view the structure of a table, edit a SQL statement, save and run scripts containing SQL statements and SQL*Plus commands, format column output, define and use variables and create simple reports. In the last section of this chapter, you'll also learn how to write SQL statements that generate other SQL statements.
