SAN FRANCISCO -- After two days heavy on database and middleware news, Oracle today provided some application insight, previewing its upcoming release of Oracle E-Business Suite 12.

The release of its database 10g product and partner news has dominated the first two days of the conference despite the many business application software vendors the Redwood City, Calif.-based company has bought over the past two years, most notably Siebel and PeopleSoft. Oracle is bringing all 22 acquisitions together under one product set called Fusion.

Catching up on the details surrounding Fusion was a goal for Kevin Smith, director of information systems at Cerner Corp., a Kansas City-based health care technology vendor that runs a significant amount of Oracle software, including applications from Oracle's acquisitions.

"I'm also interested in PeopleSoft and Siebel existing as themselves," Smith said, citing Oracle's pledge to continue to enhance its two acquisitions. "I'd also like to see one standardized process in practice no just theory. I can't wait until the day I have one Oracle sales guy."

Today's preview of E-Business Suite 12 is proof of Oracle's commitment to that Applications Unlimited program, its plan to provide continued enhancements to individual applications outside of Fusion, according to the company. Oracle did not announce a release date for the next version of E-Business Suite.

The upgrade will include a profitability manager that will give users the ability to run profitability analysis on products, channels, segments and customers. It will also feature a Projects Portfolio Analysis, giving users the ability to choose, fund and prioritize projects based on what-if analysis. Oracle has also streamlined the user interface, support for integration with third party applications, and industry-specific processes for communications and high tech and manufacturing.

"Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 has been built to ensure that companies, no matter what size or industry, can compete effectively in an increasingly global economy," John Wookey, senior vice president of application development, said in a release. "With a focus on helping companies make better decisions, work more efficiently and manage their businesses at lower costs, Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 will help them manage the complexities of global business environments."

Last week, Oracle announced it was following through with its plans to provide hosting services for PeopleSoft Enterprise and Siebel. Oracle On Demand for Siebel CRM and PeopleSoft Enterprise On Demand are available now with pricing starting at $150 per user per month.

Yesterday, Oracle also announced the release of its Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition 10g Release 3. The new suite focuses on enabling BI enterprise-wide, integration with Oracle applications, Fusion Middleware and database and "hot pluggable" support for third-party data sources and systems.
